Hualien Pacific Ocean Lantern Festival 2025

The inspiration for this project originated from Hualien’s unique cultural heritage and its resilient rebirth following a disaster. After enduring the 403 earthquake, Hualien emerged like a flower blooming against the wind, showcasing an unyielding spirit. Each flower symbolized the diverse stories and charms of local tribes, communities, and businesses, while also conveying the core values of hope and unity. Through an artistic presentation, the revival and cultural strength of Hualien were perfectly intertwined, allowing visitors to deeply experience the city’s confidence and vitality, and to share in the boundless aspirations of its people.
The most stunning feature and highlight of the festival was the flawless integration of art and technology. The " Blossoms with Bliss " installation, composed of a hundred inflatable flowers, provided a multi-layered, immersive experience enhanced by dynamic lighting effects that offered a dazzling visual feast. The main lantern, "Full Moon and Blossoming Flowers," utilized advanced water curtain projection and water dance lasers to create a dreamlike spectacle of light and shadow.
As visitors strolled through the expansive venue, they experienced up-close the interactive effects of three-meter-wide flowers that shifted with the play of light, as if stepping into a vividly woven realm of illusion. Complemented by interactive performances arranged on national and regular holidays, the overall entertainment and sense of participation were greatly enhanced. People were not merely passive observers but actively engaged in dialogue with the artworks, collectively experiencing the resilience of Hualien's post-earthquake rebirth and its vibrant culture.
